Hasegawa 1/700 IJN Destroyer Akishimo
A reproduction of the Yugumo-class destroyer at the time of its completion in its later configuration!
The Yugumo class of destroyers were constructed as improvements to the preceding Kagero class under the Imperial Japanese Navy's (IJN) 4th Naval Armaments Supplement Program (Maru Yon Keikaku) of 1939. The Yugumo destroyers closely resemble the Kagero vessels, with an enlarged upper bridge area on the Yugumo class being a significant distinguishing feature. Another difference of the Yugumo class was an elongated stern - a design feature undertaken as a streamlining measure to reduce water resistance. Combined with a more efficient propulsion system, this gave the Yugumo class a small improvement in speed over its predecessors. The Destroyer had a main armament of "D" -type high-elevation twin-mounted 12.7cm guns.
