AModel 1/72 Antonov An-26 Ukrainian Air Forces
The Antonov An-26 (NATO reporting name: Curl) was a Soviet twin-engine, high-wing transport aircraft of the Cold War era. Power was provided by two Ivchenko AI-24T turboprop engines , each developing 2,820 hp, and an auxiliary RU-19-A jet engine. The prototype first flew in 1969, and series production lasted from 1969 to 1986. A total of approximately 1,400 aircraft of this type, in all versions, were built.
The Antonov An-26 was designed as a de facto development of the An-24T. Compared to its predecessor, the new aircraft gained a rear ramp, significantly speeding up unloading and loading. The aircraft also received an auxiliary jet engine, significantly facilitating takeoff from high-altitude airfields and in hot and tropical climates. During production, numerous developments of the aircraft were created, including the An-26 (basic version), the An-26B (civilian transport version), and the An-26D (extended-range version). Many aircraft of this type remain in service.
